Japan: Published result of consultation on Research Committee on Platform Services draft report on direction for future consideration on measures against illegal and harmful information

On 6 September 2023, the Japan Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication published the results of the consultation on the Research Committee on Platform Services draft report on direction for future consideration on measures against illegal and harmful information. The working group discussed measures against illegal and harmful information such as defamation and sought opinions on this from 2 June 2023 to Friday 30 June 2023. Furthermore, another public consultation was conducted between 19 July 2023 and 15 August 2023. In its report, the working group outlines the current legal framework for requesting the deletion of content and addresses the platform's role in preventing the distribution of illegal and harmful information. Furthermore, the draft report outlines criteria and disclosure standards concerning deletion procedures.
