Launch of investigation into Google for abuse of dominance in operating systems market

On 8 May 2019, the Italian competition and markets authority (autorità garante della concorrenza e del mercato) launched an investigation into Google for abuse of dominance. The authority alleges Google to have violated Art. 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) by abusing its dominant position in the market of operating systems. The competition authority claims that Google refused to integrate the app "Enel X Recharge”, which provides information and location of recharging electric car batteries, into its Android Auto environment. Furthermore, the agency stated that Google refused to integrate the app to self preference its application Google Maps.
