Announced Commission investigation into Microsoft over qualification of Bing, Edge, and Microsoft Advertising as gatekeepers under the DMA

On 6 September 2023, the European Commission announced it had opened market investigations to assess Microsoft’s submission against the designation of its core platforms Bing, Edge, and Microsoft Advertising as gateway services under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The investigations will determine if these platforms should not be designated as gatekeepers despite meeting the required thresholds under the DMA. The investigations should be completed within a maximum of 5 months.
