Norway: Issued court ruling upholding Datatilsynet daily fine on Meta

On 6 September 2023, the Oslo District Court issued its ruling on the case brought by Meta, appealing to Norway's Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) daily NOK 1 million fine due to non-compliance with the ban on behavioural advertising. The Court upheld the Datatilsynet fine on Meta, applicable from 14 August 2023, for harvesting user data and using it for targeted advertising. The Datatilsynet imposed a ban on behavioural advertising on Meta's platforms, Facebook and Instagram, arguing that the practice is illegal and Meta has to provide evidence that it is compliant with data protection regulations. The ban applies specifically to users in Norway.
