Announced EDÖB investigation into Fedpol and BAZG over alleged violations against data protection regulations in using Xplain AG

On 20 June 2023, the Swiss Federal Data Protection Authority (EDÖB) opened an investigation against the Federal Offices of Police (fedpol) and Customs and Border Security (BAZG) for potential serious breaches of data protection regulations through the use of software provided by Xplain AG. In particular, the investigation questions the access by employees of BAZG to the national search register RIPOL run by fedpol.
