Germany: Approved proposal for the establishment of the German Data Institute

On 10 May 2023, the proposal for the establishment of the Data Institute submitted by the German Federal Government was approved by the budget committee of the Bundestag. The Data Institute would study and establish processes to ensure the availability and standardisation of data and implement data trustee models. The institute will address coordination challenges within the national data ecosystem and provide guidance, offer support and facilitate collaboration between sectors. The proposal includes EUR 10 million in funding for the development of the Data Institute for 2023 and another EUR 10 million for 2024 and 2025.
