Adopted Protection of Personal Information Bill (B9-2009) including Data Protection Authority Governance

On 20 August 2013, the Protection of Personal Information Bill (B9-2009) was adopted after being passed by both Houses of the National Assembly. The Bill creates an Information Regulator and establishes the powers and duties of the authority. Notably, the Information Regulator is empowered to monitor and enforce compliance of the Act, handling complaints about alleged violations of the protection of personal information of data subjects, issue codes of conduct, among others.
