Implemented Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) including Data Protection Authority Governance

On 11 April 2014, section 1, Part A of Chapter 5, section 112 and section 113 of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) concerning the establishment and duties of the Information Regulator entered into force. Notably, the Information Regulator is empowered to monitor and enforce compliance of the POPIA, handle complaints about alleged violations of the protection of personal information of data subjects, issue codes of conduct, among others.
