Issued interim ruling against Trendyol for self-preferencing its own retail line on its platform

On 30 September 2021, the Turkish Competition Board published interim measures against Trendyol, Turkiye's largest e-commerce provider, for self-preferencing its own retail services on its online marketplace platform. Specifically, Trendyol was found to have adjusted its algorithms to treat its own products in a preferential matter, only providing its own products with next-day delivery, using non-exclusive data collected from all retailers on its platform to its own advantage, and treating third-party sellers in a differential matter. The interim measures sanctioned by the Turkish Competition Board now include the termination of any discrimination as well as the obligation to stop using data and algorithms to its own advantage.
