Implemented EU-UK FTA including cross-border data transfer regulation

On 1 January 2021, the Free Trade Agreement between the UK and the EU entered into force. In the Agreement, the UK and the EU commit to not restrict cross-border data flows by (a) requiring the use of computing facilities in a certain territory; (b) requiring data localisation; (c) prohibiting the storage or processing in the territory of the other Party; or (d) making the cross-border transfer of data contingent upon the localisation of computing facilities, network elements or data in a particular territory.
