Issued Rheinland-Palatinate DPA statement on request to OpenAI on ChatGPT's personal data processing practices

On 24 April 2023, the Rheinland-Palatinate Data Protection Authority stated that it had requested information from OpenAI on ChatGPT’s data processing practices in order to determine whether the application complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In particular, the Authority requested the legal basis for data processing, the protection of children’s information, and information on data processing. The Authority stated that the requested information was sent in coordination with the other German data protection authorities with the EU ChatGPT task force created by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).
