Republic of Korea: Implemented Bill amending Personal Information Protection Act including data protection measures

On 15 March 2024, Law No. 19234 amending the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) outlining data subject rights is implemented. In particular, the Law establishes the right to data portability, allowing individuals to request to transmit information to themselves or a third party. Furthermore, the Law gives individuals the right to refuse automated decision-making using their personal data and request information regarding the system employed. The data subject's rights regarding automated decisions and the procedures entities have to follow will be established by a Presidential Decree.
