Republic of Korea: Introduced Bill amending Personal Information Protection Act including data protection measures

On 5 December 2022, Bill No. 2120089, amending the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of the Republic of Korea (ROK), was introduced in the Political Affairs Committee of the ROK National Assembly. The proposed Bill contains amendments to the PIPA to expand the rights of data subjects. In particular, the Bill would establish the right to data portability, allowing individuals to request for transmission of information to themselves or a third party. Furthermore, the Bill would give individuals the right to refuse automated decision-making using their personal data and request information regarding the system employed.
