On 10 April 2023, the Louisiana Secure Online Child Interaction and Age Limitation Act (SB 162) was introduced in the state Senate as the legislative session commenced. In particular, the Act would prohibit social media companies with over five million account holders worldwide from collecting minors' personal data and using data generated on the basis of their activity, including posts, messages or text. The social media platforms would only be permitted to collect and process minors' personal data for the purpose of age verification to comply with the service access restrictions that they would be required to implement for users under 18 years old under the same bill.
