Announced conclusion of negotiations for UK’s incorporation to the CPTPP

On 31 March 2023, the governments of Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and the United Kingdom (UK) announced the substantive conclusion of negotiations for the incorporation of the UK to the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which contains numerous provisions affecting the digital economy, including, for example, chapters on e-commerce and telecommunications. In particular, the UK government stated that it expects the CPTPP to help remove digital trade barriers, promote trust in digital trade and help the UK become a leader in digital trade.
