Description

Implemented Utah Social Media Regulation Act (SB 152) including service access restrictions

On 1 March 2024, the Social Media Regulation Act (SB 152), including service access restrictions, is implemented. The Act requires social media companies to verify the age of Utah residents and obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before a resident under the age of 18 may open an account. Social media companies must verify the age of existing accounts and deny access if they determine that the account holder is a minor and doesn't have parental consent to access the platform. Furthermore, social media companies are required to restrict minors' access to their platform between 10.30 pm to 6.30 am and give the minor's guardian the option to restrict access to the platform for specific hours.
