Signed Utah Social Media Regulation Act (SB 152) including service access restrictions

On 23 March 2023, the Social Media Regulation Act (SB 152), including service access restrictions, was signed into law by the Governor of Utah. The Act would require social media companies to verify the age of Utah residents and obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before a resident under the age of 18 may open an account. The social media companies will be required to verify the age of existing accounts and deny access if they determine that the account holder is a minor and they don't have parental consent. Furthermore, the social media companies would be required to restrict minors' access to their platform between 10.30 pm to 6.30 am and give the minor's guardian the option to restrict access to the platform for specific hours. The service access restrictions requirements will come into force on 1 March 2024.
