Republic of Korea: Announced investigation into data leak of users from Coupang

On 20 March 2023, the Republic of Korea Personal Information Protection Committee (PIPC) announced that it was investigating media reports of a data leak from the e-commerce platform Coupang concerning more than 460,000 users. The leak on the dark web allegedly included personal information and transaction records. The PIPC stated that it would launch an investigation under the violation of the Personal Information Protection Act once the data processor responsible for the leakage of information has been identified.
