Announced investigation into Apple for misuse of data for own commercial purposes

On 20 August 2020, the Italian Competition And Markets Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato- CMA) opened a preliminary investigation into Apple. The CMA alleged that Apple violated the Italian Customer Code and data protection regulations. In particular, CMA stated that Apple used consumer data for its own commercial purposes and failed to provide users with information on the purpose of data collection and processing. Furthermore, the CMA alleged that Apple's acquisition of users' consent architecture does not allow users to opt out of data collection for commercial purposes.
