Implemented My Health Records Act 2012 containing data localisation provisions

On 29 June 2012, the My Health Records Act entered into force. This Act establishes the "My Health Records" online platform, which stores individuals’ health information that can be accessed by registered healthcare providers. Provision 77 regulates the cross-border exchange of information and prohibits a platform operator from holding the records, or taking the records, outside Australia; processing or handling the information relating to the records outside Australia; or causing or allowing another person to do so.
