Inquiry announced regarding compatibility of WhatsApp's privacy update with data protection law

On May 14, 2021, the National Directorate for the Protection of Personal Data announced the begin of their investigation into WhatsApp regarding the planned WhatsApp privacy updates that were supposed to happen a day later on May 15, 2021. Originally, WhatsApp was planning on implementing the new policy on February 8, 2021, but then pushed that step back until May 15, 2021. More specifically, the NDPDP will take a closer look at the compliance of WhatsApp's new terms & conditions and privacy policy with Law 25.326 on Protection of Personal Data, the regulatory Decree 1558/01 and Law 27.483.
