Japan: Adopted Safety Management Guidelines for Providers of Information Systems and Services that Handle Medical Information

On 21 August 2021, the “Safety Management Guidelines for Providers of Information Systems and Services that Handle Medical Information" were adopted. The guidelines contain a non-binding localisation requirement concerning health providers. Medical institutions and providers of medical information systems are recommended to locate medical information within Japan. This extends to “external equipment”, medical records and medical information systems.
