Introduced amendment to the Personal Information Protection Act on data protection after death (Bill No 2118636)

On 2 December 2022, Bill number 2118636 was introduced in the Republic of Korea (ROK) National Assembly proposing to amend the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). The Bill aims to expand the scope of PIPA and provide a definition for the data of a deceased person. Furthermore, the Bill aims to allow the deceased person's legal representative or family member to require the deletion of the data and allow them to consent to how the data would be used.
