Implemented New Brunswick ban of TikTok in provincial government-issued mobile devices

On 2 March 2023, the provincial government of New Brunswick implemented a ban on the TikTok application by ordering its removal from government-issued mobile devices. In addition, TikTok will also be blocked from being downloaded onto devices. The decision was adopted over concerns on data collection methods used by TikTok and on the legal regime that governs the information collected. The decision aligns with the direction of other provinces and follows the recent decision by the federal government’s chief information officer that the popular social media app presents an unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security.
