Issued BfDI statement on EDPB opinion on draft adequacy decision in EU-US Data Privacy Framework

On 28 February 2023, the German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) issued a statement in support of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB)'s opinion on the draft adequacy decision on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF). The statement echoed the EDPB's opinion and reiterated that the BfDI shared the same concerns as the EDPB regarding the adequacy of the levels of data protection of the new regulations and their adherence to existing EU standards relating, in particular, to the mass collection of data. The BfDI's statement also highlighted that the DPF was a "important contribution" in international data transfers which it looked to build on at the G7 data protection supervisory authorities meeting held in Japan in June 2023.
