Adopted Directive on Tiktok Ban on State-Issued Devices

On 7 December 2022, the Governor of Texas announced the adoption of a Directive ordering all public institutions in Texas to ban the installation and use of the mobile app Tiktok for their employees. The Directive aims to reduce the risk of the Chinese Communist Party gaining access and information on the United States and its infrastructure. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Information Resources, by 15 January 2023, are required to issue a strategy and a model plan for the State agencies to implement to address the vulnerabilities that arise from the use of TikTok on personal devices presents. The State agencies are required to implement a policy on the use of the application by 15 February 2023.
