The Information Commissioner`s Office Age Appropriate Design Code, aiming to protect minors from data collection, comes into force after a grace period of 12 months. The code does not represent a new law per se, but rather represents the result of the obligation codified under s.123 (1) of the UK DPA, which itself represents an implementation of the UK General Data Protection Regulation into UK law. Thereunder, the Information Commissioner's Office is obliged to create a code of practice on standards of age-appropriate design of online services. With the code being in effect, any organization supplying online services that likely reach children will have to be compliant with the Age Appropriate Design Code. Under the code, children are defined as anyone under 18. Non-compliance with the code will result in liability consequences under the UK GDPR.
