Adopted order banning the use of TikTok on government-issued mobile devices

On 27 February 2023, the Government of Canada adopted an order banning the use of the TikTok application on government-issued mobile devices. In addition, users of government-issued mobile devices will also be blocked from downloading the application in the future. The decision was adopted after the Chief Information Officer of Canada determined that the application presented an unacceptable level of risk to privacy and security because of the concerns about the legal regime that governs the information collected from mobile devices, which provides considerable access to the contents of a phone. The order will be implemented on the following day of its adoption, 28 February 2023.
