Introduced Making Age-Verification Technology Uniform, Robust, and Effective Act including data protection regulation

On 14 February 2023, the Making Age-Verification Technology Uniform, Robust, and Effective Act was introduced to the Senate floor. Social media platform operators will be required to verify the age of individuals who wish to create an account and use the platform. The Act specifies that the data received by the social media platform to verify the age cannot be sold, transferred, or used for another purpose. If a social media account were to be deleted, any data used to verify the age needs to be deleted within 30 days of the removal of the account.
