Announced Nigeria Data Protection Bill 2022 including data protection authority governance

On 25 February 2023, the Nigerian Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the Nigeria Data Protection Bill 2022, including data protection authority governance regulation, which will now be introduced in the National Assembly. The Bill establishes the Nigeria Data Protection Commission which shall, among other functions, be charged with enforcing the provisions of the Bill. The Bill also lays out procedures for investigations and applicable penalties in the case of violations.
