On 3 February 2023, the Rhode Island Data Transparency and Privacy Protection Act (H 5354) was introduced in the Rhode Island House of Representatives. Under the Act, providers of online services and websites will be required to disclose the type of information they collect and which data is sold to which third parties. This disclosure must be made publicly available on the website of the provider. The Act provides that enforcement of the Act is exclusive to the Attorney General, with sanctions between USD 100 and USD 500 per intentional disclosure of personal information that violates the Act.
