Chinese Taipei: Amendment to the Patent Examination Guidelines to increase Protection for Computer Software-related Inventions

The new Taiwan Patent Examination Guidelines are put into effect on July 1, 2021. The stated goal is to improve the protection of the computer software-related inventions. This will allegedly be achieved through clear guidelines for the patenting of the computer software-related inventions and material criteria for the determination of an innovation. Finally, new example cases, including some on AI, are added to the Examination Guidelines in an effort to make the Guidelines more practical and the potential patenting more foreseeable.
