United Kingdom: Published Children’s Code compliance guidelines for game designers including content moderation recommendations

Description

Published Children’s Code compliance guidelines for game designers including content moderation recommendations

On 15 February 2023, the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) published guidelines for game designers on how to comply with the Children's Code 2021. The guidelines contain recommendations for game designers on content moderation, such as checking if third-party advertising providers display age-appropriate content to children in-game and assessing whether children have access to "riskier" in-game features or are exposed to inappropriate content. Furthermore, game designers have to ensure that providers are implementing measures to monitor product placement, advertising and sponsorship arrangements.
