Introduced See Something, Say Something Online Act including reporting obligations

On 30 January 2023, the "See Something, Say Something Online Act" was reintroduced in the US Congress. The Act aims to amend Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, wich provides a liability shield for online platforms, to require companies to report illegal activity on their online platforms. In particular, the Act requires companies to report suspicious activity to law enforcement and to take reasonable steps to prevent or address unlawful activity. The reporting would be required for serious crimes such as illegal drug sales, hate crimes, murder or terrorism. Companies may be held liable if they fail to report criminal activity.
