Closing of investigation into Amazon for alleged abuse of a superior bargaining position

On 10 September 2020, the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) closed its investigation into Amazon Japan for the alleged abuse of a superior position and suspected violation of Article 19 of the Antimonopoly Act. JFTC closed the investigation by accepting the commitment plan put forward by Amazon Japan. The commitment plan includes repayments to vendors and the creation of new internal antitrust guidelines. The case is closed without a cease-and-desist order by the JFTC. The approval of the commitment plan does not necessarily mean Amazon Japan violated Japanese antitrust law.
