Introduced SB 90 to require the disclosure of a camera or recording capability in certain internet-connected devices

On 25 January 2023, Senate Bill 90 (SB 90) was introduced in the US Senate. It would require the Federal Trade Commission to create disclosure guidelines for manufacturers of certain internet-connected devices, such as home appliances with audio or visual recording components, to disclose these functions to consumers. Specifically, it would apply to internet-connected appliances with non-obvious audio or visual recording capacities. It would not apply to devices that are expected by consumers to be equipped with cameras or microphones, such as mobile phones or laptops.
