Description

Closed Consultation on Economic Considerations of Collection and Processing of Personal Data in Mobile Applications

On 10 February 2023, the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) closed its public consultation on the economic considerations of the collection and processing of personal data in mobile applications (apps) from 18 January 2023. The CNIL stressed that this was not an industry-wide inquiry into compliance with data protection regulations but rather an attempt to understand the economic reality of the data collection and processing ecosystem. The CNIL sought to gather information and contributions from researchers in related fields, design offices and consulting firms, individuals or commercial entities who created a business model around apps, and relevant interest groups. The public consultation was designed as a questionnaire available on its site.
