On 22 December 2022, the Senate passed the No TikTok on Government Devices Act by incorporating it into the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2023 (HR 2617) under Division R. The Act aims to prohibit installing and using the social media video application TikTok on federal agencies' information technologies. In particular, the Act would require the Office of Management and Budget no later than 60 days after the Act enters into force to adopt standards to require the removal of TikTok and any of its successors from the federal agencies' devices. The Act would not apply to cases involving national security enforcement.
