United States of America: Executive Order calls for enhanced supply chain security in critical software

President Biden seeks to enhance the security of the critical software supply chain via Executive Order 14028. In section 4, the President diagnoses a lack of transparency and insufficient precautions against cybersecurity attacks in commercial software. He thus tasks several federal agencies to define and implement mechanisms to ensure "critical software" works securely and as intended. Furthermore, a closer collaboration between the government and private sector is demanded, with an information-sharing system to be set up in order to increase protection from cyber threats. Finally, a Cybersecurity Safety Review Board is to be created.
