Data protection authority publishes principles for the position of data protection officers

The Dutch data protection authority (DPA) published principles for principles for the position of data protection officers (DPO). The principles are intended to serve as a supplement to the existing law on DPOs. Their content consists of: (1) involvement of the DPO at early stages in the development of products and services, including a record of the DPO's advice, (2) clear visibility of the DPO within an organization, (3) the possibility of intervention and expression of concerns at the highest administrative level for the DPO, (4) the DPO must be independent, (5) the DPO takes a central position in contacts between the DPA and the organization, while keeping his independence.
