On 18 April 2022, the Bill on Quantum Computing Cybersecurity Preparedness was introduced in the United States House of Representatives. The Bill would regulate the migration of executive agencies’ information technology systems to post-quantum cryptography. The Bill seeks to mitigate attacks that aim to steal sensitive encrypted data by quantum computers developed in the future. Furthermore, the Bill would require the National Institutes of Standards and Technology to issue post-quantum cryptography standards that the Office of Management and Budget will follow in the transition of US agency information technology systems to post-quantum cryptography.
