Announced lawsuit by Indiana AG against Tiktok over alleged deceptive acts and misleading users about security and data practices

On 7 December 2022, the Attorney General (AG) of Indiana filed a lawsuit against Tiktok and its parent company Bytedance. The lawsuit alleges that Tiktok misleads its users about the application's level of security and data governance standards. According to the AG, Tiktok informs its users that there is a comprehensive security framework in place that is not subject to Chinese law and that users' data will not be shared with China. Furthermore, the AG alleges that Tiktok also fails to disclose when accounts linked to China and its party promote controversial content. The AG claims that Tiktok is intentionally misrepresenting its relation to China and is misleadingly asserting that there is minimal risk associated with the Chinese government accessing their data.
