Description

Closed inquiry into Online Sales Tax

On 17 November 2022, the United Kingdom Treasury closed the inquiry into the Online Sales Tax (OST) after a consultation that took place between 20 May 2022 and 25 February 2022. The Government decided not to introduce an OST, following stakeholders' concerns about its complexity and the risk of unintended market distortions between different business models. The OST inquiry assessed whether a 1-2% tax rate would have decreased the disparities between online retail and in-store retailers.
