Approved Communications Commission 2022 user protection evaluation of telecom operators

On 16 November 2022, Korea’s Communications Commission approved the 2022 evaluation of telecommunications operators in relation to protection measures and services provided to users under the Telecommunications Business Act. Specifically, the Commission evaluates efforts of operators to address and reduce user complaints regarding the provided telecommunications services and autonomously install user protection features. The evaluation covered 42 companies in 12 service sectors, including key telecommunications industry sectors and value-added telecommunication services. The overall ratings of key telecommunications operators improved compared to 2021, but the evaluation results of most value-added telecommunications operators decreased or were similar to the previous year. Notably, Samsung was rated as “excellent”, Google, including Youtube, was downgraded to “good”, while Apple was rated as “poor”, and has been rated the lowest for five consecutive years.
