Issued notice by Hessian data protection authority regarding cloud-based writing support

On 3 November 2022, the Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information in the German state of Hessen issued a notice encouraging data processors and controllers to check the settings of web browsers using cloud-based writing support, including artificial intelligence tools. The Commissioner noted that such spell-checks could automatically transmit personal data to the browser manufacturer in violation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
