Issued ruling in FTC consumer protection lawsuit against Vonage

On 3 November 2022, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey issued a ruling in the public lawsuit brought before the court by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against Vonage, a cloud communications provider. The company was fined for failing to provide customers with easy ways to cancel their subscriptions, obtaining customers' billing information before informing them of transaction terms and charging customers without express consent. According to the ruling, the company is required to immediately cease all the listed illegal activities permanently. In addition, the company was fined USD 100 million to be paid within 7 days of the ruling's issuance. Vonage is also required to provide periodic reports of compliance with the ruling and to track its activities for 12 years.
