Imposed fine on Betway for advertising to children

On 5 September 2022, the UK Gambling Commission announced that Betway Limited, a company providing online betting services, will pay a fine of GBP 408,915 for marketing on the pages for children of the website of West Ham United Football Club. According to information obtained by the Commission, in two incidents, from 14 April 2020 to 6 November 2021 and from 24 October 2021 to 15 November 2021 respectively, advertisements linking to the operator's website were displayed on webpages targeted to children. According to the Commission, "both advertisements breached Commission rules stating gambling advertising must be socially responsible".
