On 29 August 2020, as part of a sectoral inquiry into non-search online advertising, Germany's Competition Authority (Bundeskartellamt) published a report on the market conditions and functioning mechanisms in the non-search online advertising sector, opening a public consultation until 28 October 2022. The report focuses on the prominent position of some market players and the use of complex technologies that affect transparency and the ability of stakeholders to assess the scope and possible consequences of the data collection that forms the basis of non-selective online advertising.
