Supreme Court of Victoria ordered Google to pay damages for defamation in Google v Defteros

On 30 April 2020, the Supreme Court of Victoria ordered Google to pay AUD 40'000 in damages for defamation to Mr Defteros. The plaintiff claimed damages for defamation against Google over an article displayed n the Google search results. The Supreme Court of Victoria held that Google was a publisher of search results and had defamed the lawyer who had sued the company for defamation based on the search results provided by the Google search engine.
