France: Adoption of Ordinance 2021-580

The French government publishes its implementation of Art. 17-23 of the European Copyright Directive (2019/790). The implementation includes the obligation for online content sharing services to make their best effort to ensure uploaded content respects the rights of the original copyright holders. If the content is found to be in violation, content sharing service providers must remove the contested content swiftly. Additional obligations apply to content sharing providers with more than 5 million unique visitors from the European Union in the previous calendar year.
